New to bowls?

Everyone's first bowl
wobbles. Come and wobble.

Lawn bowls is one of the few sports you can pick up in an afternoon and play for the rest of your life - outdoors in summer, indoors all winter, at any age and any pace. Your first visit to Cullen Bowling Club is free.

What to expect

Your first visit, step by step

Bring flat shoes

That's genuinely the only requirement - trainers are perfect. We'll lend you a set of bowls matched to your grip.

Learn the basics

A friendly member walks you through delivery, line and length. Within half an hour you'll be drawing to the jack - badly, then suddenly not.

Stay for a drink

The important bit. The bar overlooks the green, the kettle is always on, and you'll leave knowing half the club's names.

Honest answers

Things people worry about
(and shouldn't)

"Am I too young / too old?"
Our members span teenagers to nineties. Bowls is one of very few sports where all of them genuinely compete together.
"Is it expensive?"
It's one of the cheapest sports in Scotland. A junior year costs less than a single round of golf, and your first visit is free.
"Will I hold people up?"
No. Club nights are built for mixing abilities - nobody is counting, and every single member started exactly where you are.
"Do I need whites?"
Not for club bowling. Come as you are; flat-soled shoes are the only rule of the green.
